fascism: what it is and how to fight it (60)
this week we will be doing a study group on this small book by Trostsky. While we do not agree that the tea parties represent some creeping fascism, the word is becoming more and more prevelant on the left. We want to read this and talk about what fascism really is. Here is a short review of the book:

Writing in the heat of struggle against the rise of fascism in Germany, France, and Spain in the 1930s, communist leader Leon Trotsky examines the class origins and character of fascist movements. Building on foundations laid by the Communist International in Lenin's time, Trotsky advances a working-class strategy to combat and defeat this malignant danger.

If you do not have the book you can read it online here.

Also, for those of you who are interested in additional reading, this is the mentioned in last week's meeting:
It is a super condensed version of Daniel Guerin's book Fascism and Big Business (which I highly recommend) and which is a classic on the subject. Daniel Guerin was a French Socialist who visited Germany in 1933 and witnessed Fascism's rise to power first-hand.
